CCL assesses your ability to convey meaning between English and your language (LOTE) across everyday Australian scenarios.

Test Format & Procedure

Test structure

  • Two dialogues (each ~300 words), split into short segments
  • After each segment, interpret into the other language (EN <-> LOTE)
  • Total test time typically around 20-30 minutes
  • Scenarios reflect everyday AUS contexts (health, education, legal, housing, transport)

Test procedure

  • Listen to each segment and convey meaning accurately (not word-for-word)
  • Use the short pause to plan your first sentence; start promptly
  • Speak clearly at a natural, conversational pace
  • Responses are recorded and assessed after the test
  • The test is delivered online with remote ID checks

Technical requirements

  • Computer/laptop with stable internet
  • Updated browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge)
  • Working microphone and speakers/headphones
  • Quiet, private environment; valid photo ID
  • Backup internet recommended
